Tazihu Football Training Base
Tazihu Football Training Base is the core hub of Wuhan’s football youth training and one of the most fully equipped professional football bases in Central China. Located on Houhu Avenue in Jiang’an District and affiliated with the Tazihu National Fitness Center, it was designated by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) in 2018 as one of the first batch of “National Youth Football Training Centers.” Covering approximately 300 mu, the base is centered on four international-standard natural grass football pitches, with Pitch No. 1 featuring stands that seat 5,000 spectators. To host the 2019 Military World Games, these four pitches were fully upgraded to three natural grass pitches and one internationally advanced woven hybrid grass pitch; the drainage systems were built to first-class international standards, and the turf quality meets the requirements of top-tier events. In addition to natural grass, the base has three artificial turf football pitches, three 8-a-side pitches, and five 5-a-side pitches, as well as a 12,000-square-meter athletes’ apartment building that can accommodate 12 teams for meals and lodging, providing full supporting capacity from professional training to event hospitality. The base’s defining focus is youth training: it is not only the daily training headquarters for Wuhan’s football youth training teams at all levels, but also the preferred destination for training camps in Wuhan for the Chinese men’s national football team during Marcello Lippi’s tenure and for national teams such as the national Olympic, youth, and junior teams. Wuhan Chegu Jiangda Women’s Football Team has also trained or played home matches here. In terms of transportation, the base is about 15 kilometers from Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, with a drive of usually 20 to 30 minutes, allowing visiting teams to quickly settle into training after arriving in Wuhan.
